Question Is 4070 is powerful than 3080?

in 4K they have virtually the same performance (3080 may be a tiny bit better even) -
however they are not powerful enough to run ultra details with raytracing enabled -
even with the help of DLSS they can only do around 50 FPS on average in 4K .

But as per Benchmarks, 3080 is far more capable in 4k with RTX ultra + DLSS Quality

Avg FPS: 35

More powerful? No, it's about the same. It's definitely more efficient though and it has 4GB more VRAM than the RTX 3080. I would also expect that the RTX 4070 has better ray-tracing performance than the RTX 3080 and also supports DLSS3.

If all that doesn't matter to you and you just want the most powerful card at that price point, then the card you want is the RX 6950 XT.

And 4070 has very less Cuda cores than 3080

So i guess 4070 is very weaker card than 3080

Only a maximum 2GB difference between the 3080 and 4070. And the 3080 did come in a 12GB version.

3080 10GB (8704 cores) at 1710Mhz boost (realistically more like 1900+ with a decent cooler)
3080 12GB (8960 cores) at 1710 Mhz boost (realistically more like 1900+ with a decent cooler)
4070 12GB (5888 cores) at 2475 Mhz boost.

If you do the ratios, the performance per clock is roughly the same due to the huge increase in clock speeds the 4070 has.

8704 x 1.710 = 14883
5888 x 2.475 = 14572

4070 also has slightly faster memory speeds. The big difference is that the 4070 has almost half the memory bandwidth, which may be a factor in certain types of workloads. However, the 4070 supports DLSS 3.0 whereas the 30 series only supports 2.0, so there is also a trade off there.

By the benchmarking, they certainly come close to matching each other. With the bandwidth of the 3080 pulling ahead when it comes to 4K.

That doesn't matter because the Cuda cores in the 4070 are more powerful than the Cuda cores in the RTX 3080.

You would be wrong. Any review that compares shows them to be very similar in performance. The RTX 4070 and RTX 3080 Ti have about the same strength. They are both weaker than the RX 6950 XT.

Thank you for detailed info.

I want to buy a new graphic card for 4k gaming with RTX on at medium settings and DLSS quality

So that I can get minimum 30 FPS not below than that in AAA title.

Which should I buy (4070 vs 3080)?

What's your recommendation?

I own an 3080 and I say definitely the 4070, it has an extra 2gb VRAM although 12gb is still a bit light for 4K. It also has DLSS 3.0 which should help at 4K in games that support it.

Is DLSS 3.0 backward compatible with DLSS 2.0?

I have 2 options now. because in some models 3080 comes with 12GB as well.
3080 12GB
4070 12GB

So which will you recommend now? both have same VRAM.

Not just on the basis of the VRAM. I am asking overall in terms of Cuda cores, clock and all.

Can you actually find a 3080 12GB? Where I am they are very rare. DLSS 3.0 is only supported by 4000 series cards and it needs to be implemented by the game.

Some games almost using 12gb now, future looks interesting for cards with that or less.

Not a massive difference between both, Nvidia are selling new features, not performance boosts, this generation.

Yes Nvidia is selling features this time. They didn't focus on performance boost in 40 series

But i see no game yet is utilizing the DLSS 3.0. Not sure when that era will come.

So will you recommend 4070 over 3080 12GB?

its hard to support a feature that didn't exist until GPU was released. Its a chicken/egg thing. Newer games will get it, some features take time to be useful

DLSS3 would support all the features of DLSS2 I expect. I can see the games will run on dlss2 hardware, just won't have all the features. I can't see much on the hardware side but it would make sense it can support older.

I would probably get the newer model over the old. Only as it has newer features. They are pretty similar otherwise.

You might as well get a stock one, the OC on them isn't really massive. You mostly pay for RGB and another fan on the 3 fan models. Save money (ignores fact he has 3 fans and rgb on his 7900xt)

I
I’d probably still go 4070 but it’s much closer choice. As for which 4070, it doesn’t really matter as they will all perform close to each other. Get one from one of the bigger brands with the longest warranty.
In entire World, Only Zotac provides 5 years warranty.

Rest will provide only 3 years.

Getting 2 fan I guess its not good. It will heat up more than as compare to 3 fan.

3 Fan will run cooler than 2 fan.

And due to more heat up with 2 Fan, its span of life also getting less

Hi Guy's
From what I have read and seen the 4070 and 3080 trade punches back and forth.

I just today installed a Gigabyte Rtx 4070 Windforce Oc triple fan in my son's rig.

Temps so far are staying around 55-60c and it is Very Quiet!!!!!.
My son was blown away with the uplift in performce playing Forza 5 1440p with everything set as high as the game would let it.
It's not a power hungery card and uses a single 8pin connection.
My son's friend is over for the night and is currently playing Ft Nght and it is drawing 176w on Epic settings 91 to 107 fps, 2790mhz @1440p.

This gpu is only 261mm (10.27inches) in length and only slightly thicker then his gigabyte rtx 2070 super that was pulled out.
They had 15 different cards to choose from, But only 2 brands had a more full cover backplate, Gigabyte and Zotac.

For having almost double what the 2070 super performance was for $100 more then what I paid for the 2070 we are very pleased so far.

Current specs
R5 5600x pushing 4.8 ghz with Pbo / C opt
Corsair H150i Elite Capellix ( my old cooler as I went custom loop )
Msi B450 Pro Carbon ac
32gb Gskill 3600 cl16 16 16 36
Evga Bq 850w psu
Thermaltake F31 Suppressor case
Viewsonic 1440p 165hz monitor

I hope some of this info is useful to you or others that maybe on the Hunt for Dollars vs Perfomance.
Have A Great Weekend Everyone!!!!!!!!!!
