hey guys,

my system:
cpu: fx-6300
mobo: asrock 970 extreme3 r2.0
powersupply: xfx pro 550w

i want to replace my graphics card, i have currently got the hd 7850.
does my PSU deliver enough power for cards like the r9 280x, gtx 760, gtx 670 or the gtx 770?

thanks in advance!

Solution
That's a solid PSU manufactured by Seasonic for XFX. You could replace your card with any single-GPU graphics card currently available.

The canned answer is it requires 600 watts. In reality, the 770 requires around 200W of power and around 17A on the 12V rail. That XFX Supply is high-quality, supplies 44A on the 12V rail. The canned recommendations try to take into account people picking up the bargain-bin PSUs which yours is definitely not.

You'd even be able to run any of the newer power-hungry AMD cards with no problem (ie 290x) on that PSU.

i had my gtx 770 on a cm 500w for about 2 weeks and i can say that you can run it on a 550w psu.but i wanted to feel safe so i bought a evga 600b psu a few weeks later. my specs are i5 4670-8 gb ram-2 hdds.

keep in mind that r9 280x consumes 250w tdp while gtx 770 only 195!!!

The r9 280x only requires an additional to 4-5A. This would still leave 20A on the 12V for the rest of the system with his current PSU. He's got a great PSU.

The recommended is to have 42A available on the +12V rail for a GTX 770. At 44A on the +12V rail, he's more than fine to run a 770 on that 550W PSU, as ubercake is (correctly) getting at.

Go for the 770. It's a great card.
