Is 5ms monitor response time good enough for gaming? Is the difference hugely noticeable between 5ms and 1ms response time?

depends on a game really. in FPS with high FPS (no pun intended) you might notice smearing and unpleasant lag with black to white (like getting hit by flashbang). IMHO both are minor, but if you have very good PC and play very dynamic games, this might be something to avoid. Otherwise fine.

5ms gtg (gray to gray) response time is about as slow as you want to go. Faster is always better though.

Most gaming monitors that have a 1 ms response time have a refresh rate of 144 Hz or higher. If your 5 ms monitor is a standard 60 Hz screen, then 5 ms is about as good as you can get. As far as being "fast enough" you also need to take into consideration what frame rate you're going to be gaming at as well as the type of game. If you're going to be gaming at 60 fps and not higher, then your current monitor would be just fine.
