Is 6 GB Ram Enough?

Specs:
I5 3350p 3.1 GHz CPU
6 Gb (2 slots. one is 2 gb and the other is 4 gb) (max bandwidth of each is 800 MHz)
Gtx 1060 3 Gb GPU
430W PSU
Not sure what motherboard I have.

So I bought this pre-built ASUS desktop at Fry's about 3-4 years ago, and i only upgraded the power supply and graphics card. I'm getting 60+ frames whenever I play new games such as GTA 5 and BF1, however there is a lot of stuttering.Other games like Overwatch and Rainbow Six Siege work flawlessly without any stutter. I'm not sure if it is because I dont have 8 gb ram? Or is it because of the CPU to GPU bottleneck? I really don't want to shell out the money to buy ram if it isn't going to help the performance. Please help!! Thank you!

EDIT: Currently using DDR3 RAM. Do you think I will be able to run DDR4?

Solution
yea there are backround task for example check updates on software windows etc post an image of task manager. doe i do think its ram that doing the stutter as gta is a memory hog and cpu usage the same try upgrading ram to mabey 8 or 12 heck even 16gb doe games do tend to be under 8gb 8 being sweet 12 no problem id be a while for games too run at 12gb

I have nothing open on the background when I play games

DDR3 only.. DDR4 has a physically different slot. So you should test and see if it is a RAM running out and causing it to cache the data to your hard drive or SSD, or if it is a CPU bound. To do this use the Windows Task Manager. The Ram will be easy. The cpu you wan to change to per Cpu load rather than total cpu load as that is an average of the load of all the cores and it could be just maxing out 1 or 2 depending on the game. I would bet on CPU bound in some games, but you are close to being Ram limited as well. Your GPU is plenty fast but it could end up being Vram limited in the future as you have the 3GB version rather than the 6GB version but this depends on what resolution you run at and the image settings.

Not a problem. You would be surprised to know how many types of RAM there are. Heck just since I been messing with computers there was: 30 pin SIMMS, 72 pin SIMMS, 168 Pin SDR DIMMS, Rambus DIMMS, DDR DIMMS, DDR2 DIMMS, DDR3 DIMMS, and now DDR4 DIMMS. And that was only the mainstream types of Ram and not the more exotic stuff used in servers, and not counting laptop versions of many of them.

it is defo the ram needing more id upgrade ram. they do say if buying ram buy either a single stick of 8-blah or 2 matching ram kits as this effects so many things blahblah. up to the user what they prefer

Glad to hear that more system RAM fixed the stuttering. Some systems like yours are so evenly matched with components that it can be hard to know exactly where the bottleneck is at times and it can change depending on the game and what settings you play at.. If you ever need any help again you know where to ask..
