Is 80C on Core 2 Quad Q9550 OK?

Almost same condition created 65C on a Core 2 Duo E7500. But changing the cpu to Q9550 makes 80C. Both are full load condition.

Changes :
1. Ambient temperature is higher about 5C for Q9550.
2. Better thermal paste is used with Q9550 -
Cheap, unbranded paste with E7500.
Cooler master paste with Q9550.

Tried:
1. Reapplying paste and cooler.

Cooler: Stock Intel cooler provided with E7500.

Note: Q9550 is bought used from ebay, without a cooler.

I think that your issue is the cooler. As far as I know, the 45nm C2Duo came with a "slim" cooler and the C2Quad came with a higher cooler. If you could get a better cooler would be great for your system.

I used to own this exact CPU, and stock cooler is simply not enough. Especially not the one you are using, which is intended to be used on a dual core and has even worse cooling capacity. A solid 3rd party cooler is your best bet.

Keep it below 70C at all times - and it should not ne hard to do so with even a cheap aftermarket cooler. I managed 65 under load with Artic Freezer 13.

It was, to 400MHz FSB, cca 3.4GHz overall.

runs chilled all the time when it was at 80c before now runs under gaming @ 50-60c

That isn't the right posting. Our prices are all over the places for same items.
We have to search for many places to find lowest price.
But looking for either a cheap Air cooler for my Q9550 or a AIO water cooler for my 4690K and shift it's Hyper 212X to Q9550.
So suggest me either.

212x is a rather cheap Air cooler and works well, I only use watercoolers so I am no expect in air coolers for 775 chipset. I always manage to find refurbished Enermax water coolers for 39$ here so all I can suggest is what I did, sorry
