[SOLVED] Is a 1155 cooler compatible with a 1155 motherboard?

Greetings! I’ve been out of the PC building game for years and I’m looking at liquid cooling (due to current excessive fan noise). I have a Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H LGA 1155 motherboard and am looking at an affordable liquid cooler for the 1151 chipset: https://www.newegg.com/cooler-maste...-masterliquid-ml240l-rgb-v2/p/N82E16835103297

QUESTION: would this 1151 cooler be compatible with my motherboard’s 1155 chipset containing an i5-3570K?

Wikipedia says: “The 4 holes for fastening the heatsink to the motherboard are placed in a square with a lateral length of 75 mm for Intel's sockets LGA 1156, LGA 1155, LGA1150, LGA 1151 and LGA 1200. Cooling solutions should therefore be interchangeable.”

It seems like it’s answering my question but I’ve been out of the loop for so long I’m afraid I may be missing something.

Bonus question: Is the motherboard I own compatible with current gen CPUs or should I be looking to upgrade?

Thats from the link,both lga 1151 and 1155 are on there,so yeah ur all good.
What cpu are you looking to upgrade to?
Your 3570k is Ivy Bridge,which is from around 2012,so pretty old.It can still game any title,but you should be looking to upgrade since 4c/4t is the bare minimum for today.

Thank you very much! That’s embarrassing... I set filter to 1155 system only showed me an expensive one.

I haven’t done any research, honestly. Do you have any recommendations for my current motherboard or would I have to upgrade that? I have an RX Vega 56 for GPU and along my CPU they’ve been more than sufficient for gaming (Control and current Modern Warfare run great and I play no longer than 30mins) but I think I need a better CPU for video editing and because its fan makes too much noise during audio recording.

The best processor for motherboard is i7 3770K,which has 4c and 8t,which would make a difference in gaming.
But in all honesty,you would still need to upgrade it in 2-3 years,so i suggest moving to current gen now.
That means you will have to change ram to ddr4 and the motherboard.Budget?

In that case, I think I’ll buy the $75 cooler for now and wait a little longer. I think tech in gaming has slowed down compared to a decade ago and my rig has remained relevant longer. If that doesn’t solve the noise issue then I’ll upgrade. I suppose my budget would be around $650 for ($150) ram, ($300) cpu and ($150) mb. You figure that’s realistic for a lasting rig?

Your vega 56 has the same/similar performance to 1070,which can still play all the titles at high,1080p.
