Is a dual 6 pin PSU compatible with a gtx 1060

I have an old hp pavilion hpe computer with an i7 2600k in it and a gtx 460 se. All are fairly old but it gets the job done for gaming. I recently bought a gtx 1060 6gb OC from Asus and when I installed it with only one of the 6 pins and started the pc, it stayed at the startup menu then made 1 beep, significant pause, then 1 short, 1 long beep. I looked up the beep codes and it says ram but I reseated them and it still used the same code. I was wondering if you need a power supply with only one 6 pin

The PSU is not the issue, but the GTX 1060 that you bought may not be compatible with your older PC. Before buying it, did you check if other owners of that PC were able to get a GTX 800 series or newer working?

As of right now, i have not been able to get any other graphics card above the 400 series so i am not sure.

it said it had 1 PCIe 3.0 x16 so i was sure it would be compatible but maybe i was wrong.

Any GPU up to the 700 series should definitely work; the 1060 should also work if the BIOS is the latest one. What PSU do you have? It includes the required 6-pin PCI-E cable? Is your system in UEFI or legacy mode?
