I've decided to order a graphics card that contains both , a VGA and a DL-DVI output. Will my graphics card still function if I do not insert the DVI cable? My CPU itself does not provide a DVI output by which I'm scared to buy the graphics card. Will the graphics card still function? Thank you :)

You only need to use one output. Either VGA or DVI, but if the card and your monitor supports HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort or HDMI v1.4 I would use that, in that order. HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort offer the best quality feed plus sound. DVI is okay if you only want video, but VGA is very limited I wouldn't use that at all if you have DVI as an option. Similarly if HDMI or DP is available I wouldn't use DVI either.

Also when you have a dedicated graphics card you plug the monitor into THAT not the motherboard.
