Is a gaming laptop suppose to heat up more when using a external monitor via DP?

I have a laptop with a GTX1060. Gsync display that can output Full 1080p on the laptop display. But I use a external monitor that is also full 1080p but has a 144hz refresh rate unlike the laptop display that has a 60hz refresh rate. Running a few test on gaming, I have less then 45 C temps on both cpu and gpu when gaming on laptop display. When using the external display, my temps on the same game rise to 65 C. Is this suppose to happen?

Yes, running at 144 Hz is more difficult than 60 Hz, your CPU and GPU will work harder and therefore create more heat.
