Is a gaming pc worth it

this is what that exact system would cost if you shopped around and bought the parts yourself. Not a terrible build, but there is room for improvement. What is your total budget?

[strike]What's ruining the build is that $499 1060 which should be closer to $300.

For less money I offer a couple options.

https://www.amazon.com/XOTIC-MSI-Nightblade-MI3-Computer/dp/B075KQ8NGW/ i5 7500/ 8GB RAM/ GTX 1080

7600/ GTX 1070 8GB RAM https://www.amazon.com/ADAMANT-Gaming-Computer-3-8Ghz-GeForce/dp/B01N27V3WY/

Pre-builts did have horrible value but these days they can save some money. [/strike]

While pre-builts can save you money these days I failed to notice you're from Australia.

My apologies for the error on my part.

with prebuilts it was never just the cost, it was also the low grade parts they use to keep costs down. if you plan to make any upgrades to the PC in the future then stay away from pre builts

The other issue is the AUD. PC parts cost a lot there. You are also buying things people don't normally get like a tool kit, monitor, copy of windows, etc. The ram and GPU seem super expensive to me, and the PSU is overkill in terms of wattage. An 8400 and 1060 don't need a 750W PSU. I'd rather spend the same amount of money on a higher quality 550W PSU.

Edit: Aquielsunari, I went ahead and restored your deleted post seeing as it's been quoted. Makes this thread more readable.

Heres what I came up with. Prices are in AUD.

EDITED. I forgot a copy of Windows 10 in the original parts list. it has been corrected <,<

all good thanks for taking the time to respond m also one is still a great option if price is aud

i am probably missing something but why is the pc $500 more than the one listed previously

yep, madmatt30 is correct. I selected USD instead of AUD for the first build. My apologies bud. The second build gives you a z370 board to enable overclocking if you upgrade to a K series i5/i7 later on down the road and it also has a dual channel 16gb kit of ram and a much better SSD

oh ok that makes sense

I probably am going to look clueless here but this can connect to the internet via wifi right

no, looking at the motherboard specs it only has ethernet, if you need wifi you will either have to look for another motherboard but that would increase costs or purchase a wifi addon card

can you recommend any wifi cards or a motherboard with wifi

This system will have wireless. Also swapped out the Asus GTX 1060 for an Evga GTX 1060 to get it under your budget

It's not bitcoin mining it's ethereum and there's ASICs coming later in the year so prices are going down and the RAM manufactures are getting class actioned for price fixing so that'll probably go down too.

Probably would wait a few months, the next lot of GPUs from NVidia are maybe getting announced next month so supply of new cards will be a plenty when they come out as no one in their right mind would build a GPU miner with ASICs coming around the corner.

Other than that you can't go wrong with a 2400g to pass the time, that's what i'm doing currently and it's not half bad unless you want to run something extreme.
