I am building my first computer and wanted a good entry level gpu and saw that a 1060 is a good choice, however i want to know if it can run current titles at at least 1080p 60fos since thats what im tring to hit. If it isnt then what are some good cheap gpus that are able to do this?

Solution
my apologies i meant a 5800x
I would expect most of what you describe to run pretty easily on a 1060. The only question mark for me would be the FPS, if it's CS-GO, Overwatch, BF 1 and BF V then that's all fine. If it's Battlefield 2042 or the latest Cod then it's beneficial to have more.

It's a very powerful CPU you have, if you can I would consider spending a bit more, the GPU's I would look at (in rank order) are:
  1. Nvidia 3060
  2. AMD RX 6600 XT
  3. AMD RX 6600
You should be able to get at least one of those for around the $500 mark, prices aren't good but they are what they are. It may be they are a bit over the top for your use case, but if so then they are likely to last you a while. It really depends as well how...
Unfortunately the GPU market is awful right now with a severe shortage. There isn't much stock around, and when there is it's usually at least double MSRP. In terms of the 1060, it's an old card now as it came out 5 years ago. It can run many recent titles at 60 FPS at 1080p but only with graphical compromises. Games 2 years old or more will generally perform well on the 1060. Some of the more demanding games like Cyberpunk will not perform well on the 1060 (I've tried).

Do you have an idea of what games you want to play?
Do you have a budget in mind for this PC?

My budget is $300-500 for the card. As for games they wont be extremely demanding and will mostly be things like league of legends, emulators, simple nondemanding indie games, and the occasional fps game. Not really many super demanding stuff since those titles just haven't been that interesting to me.

Edit: I already have all the other parts minus the case.

I would have thought a 1060 would do that just fine, but it really depends on the price. Do you know how much you can get one for in your area? Also something like this would be a better bet:
https://www.newegg.com/msi-radeon-rx-6600-mech-2x-8g/p/N82E16814137690
That's faster than a 1060 and has 8GB of vram, unfortunately it's terrible value as it's well above MSRP, sadly though all the GPU's are right now.

Can I ask what CPU you have to go with it?

I do have GTX 1070, but I play in QHD. So I think our situation is somehow similar.

The answer is yes, some games are more demanding and you may need to lower your settings, but my computer runs the game fine in QHD resolution (9700K 32 GB 3200Mhz RAM). I get between 60 to 100 fps almost in any title. More fps is more than welcome but any GPU that would make a meaningful difference is way expensive for my budget, yet still it is a question mark whether it will worth it.

I recently went on ebay and bought a used gtx 1080 for 425$ on a auction it took a couple days of losing bids but eventually I won a bid. I even saw Gtx 1080ti's going used around 500$ so if you don't mind the video card being used both the Gtx 1080 or Gtx 1080ti would both Blow away that gtx 1060 you were looking at.

  1. Nvidia 3060
  2. AMD RX 6600 XT
  3. AMD RX 6600
The gtx 1080 pretty much beats or comes very close to being equal to these cards listed above and the GTX 1080ti Beats them all by a decent amount. Goodluck just my two cents :)

No, 1660s or 2060 own that standard now. I’m on a 3060 now having had the other two before. Typically for stability I make sure I can clear 10-20fps higher than my target. 1060 6gb just can’t in near as many as it used to.

The non ti 1080 doesn’t come close at all to 6600xt or even 3060 esp with dlss. This last year of games really made that era of cards show their age. Don’t buy anything from that era- average fps in 20+ games 3060 (124) and 1080 (109) and the 6600xt sits in the middle of 3060 and 3060ti so it’s gonna perform wayyy better. Not even close to equal bub.. maybe in synthetics but those, esp with ampere, mean a lot less than irl performance.

Tend to agree with @Waxmantle, the older gen cards really show their age in newer things like Cyberpunk. Although the OP's needs are more modest I'd still opt for a recent gen if possible. 3060 would be my preference due to the fancy toys like DLSS and RT cores, it's just I haven't been able to find one that's not insanely priced and way out of the OP's budget. That's why I recommend the AMD cards as alternatives.
