Is a GTX 970 compatible with my motherboard?

My current motherboard is an MSI z77A-G43 1155. Would a GTX 970 be compatible with it? If not, what would be a good budget motherboard for a GTX 970?

I've got an i7 3.5MHZ 8MB. It's three years old, but would like to keep it as I'm on a limited budget. The GTX 1060 sounds good, but as I say, I am on a budget.

Okay, so they are similar in price range. I'm just worried that the GTX 1060 might not be compatible with my motherboard.

Just to add I have read that the GTX 1060 has SLI disabled so if you intend on SLI GTX 970 would be good option.
But in that case you can also consider a AMD RX 480
