Is a Noctua - NH-U12S enough for a 7700x? I bought a 4000D airflow but my 4070 is too big for a 360mm water cooler, and I don't know if I can fit a 280mm water cooler on top of this case, so I'm thinking to buy a Noctua - NH-U12S

Yes, the NH-U12S will cope, but it's only rated at 129 NSPR and is not ideal.
You'd be much better off with a bigger cooler, NH-D12L (148 NSPR) or NH-D15S (167 NSPR).
If you can fit the NH-D15, that's 183 NSPR.

See this link:

I bought the NH-U12A, I think it's better than the NH-U12S, right?

Edit: I saw the link, I think I made the right decision. Thanks mate

Best bet is to visit that link I sent for the Noctua web site and check the NSPR figure for your heatsink. Just think of NSPR in terms of Watts (of heat) and you won't go far wrong.

If your NH-U12A has an NSPR of 148, that means the cooler will cope with most things the 7700X can throw at it.

If the NH-U12A's rating is only NSPR 129, the 7700X might get quite warm, especially if you're tempted to run uneccessary benchmarks, but for normal work it should be OK. Just take care with long Handbrake runs.

Remember, the harder you push a CPU, the hotter it will get, especially on a "marginal" heatsink. Don't worry though, the CPU will reduce its clock frequency when it reaches the upper limit (90/95C AMD, 100C Intel).

I favour a really big heatsink like the NH-D15, but that's overkill for many systems and requires a deep case. AIO water coolers can take up less room than big air.

Hello, I'm running the NH-U12A CH.BK for about 1 year and idle temps are about 60c and gaming 75-80c, cinebench r23 spikes up to 95c instantly.. Do you think that I should change to a NH-D15 or I'm fine with the NH-12A? It seems a little too hot for me. The question is: with the cpu running cooler, will I gain more performance?
