Is a PCIe x 16 card compatible with a motherboard with PCIe 3.0 x 16 slots?

Apologies in advance if this is a silly question. I'm new to PC building and I was wondering if an MSI Radeon RX 580 ARMOR 8G OC (with PCI Express 16) is compatible with an MSI B360-GAMING-PLUS (with PCI Express 3.0 x 16 slots). I've heard that the generation needs to match, but some sources also tell me otherwise. Pcpartpicker seems to approve, but I want to be 100% sure. Thanks!

The RX 580 works on the PCIe x16 3.0 interface even though it's not specified on the msi website.
