Question Is an i7-4790 CPU good enough to pair with a GTX 1660 Super ?

I’m on a tight budget and considering using an i7-4790 with a GTX 1660 Super.


Would this combo work well for 1080p gaming, or would the CPU cause a bottleneck?

A PC is comprised of more than just a processor and a discrete GPU, what are the rest of the specs to said build? Please list your specs like so;

include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

I think that with 16+ GB RAM, an SSD, a good PSU and cooling, the i7-4790 would not drastically remain outside the 1660's league.

An old CPU for sure, yet I think that if the games are played on normal settings and the eye-candy is not the primary target of the OP, it would still be a powerful enough machine in the end.

I remember how I used to blast away Battlefield 3 and 4 and the Far Cry games and the Crysis series back in the day on an i7-3770K with 1x Sapphire HD 7870 GHz and then with x2 such cards in Crossfire. Things have not changed all too majorly since those days; except for Ray Tracing and higher resolutions; from what I've seen the graphics aren't all that much better than those of Crysis 3 per-se.

I have been outside the gaming sphere for a decade so my conclusions may be a little biased; yet comparing the graphics of games it seems we'll be getting little improvements of visuals at the cost of more and more computing power; they would be scarcely perceived at all in the end.

That would work fine for older titles (2 years+) and 1080p low gaming on new titles, do you already have these parts or are you looking to buy them? We may be able to help you out something a little better together if you can give us the budget you're trying to work with?
