Hi there,
I want to ask question about upgrating CPU from 10400f to 11. gen intel for PCI-E 4 or sell both CPU/mobo and go for 12 gen for 1080p 60fps gaming (playing games like World of Warcraft, Diablo, Division 2 and Assasins Creed Valhalla).
I have approx 200 USD coupon at PC parts shop at my country (Czech Republic) and that is the reason why I trying to figure what to upgrade If there is reason. Dont need just few more fps so trying figure what will be good upgrade for this pc.

I5 10400f
MSI B560M PRO-VDH WIFI
MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Gaming X 12G
Crucial 16GB KIT DDR4 3000MHz CL15 Ballistix Red
WD Blue SN550 NVMe SSD 1TB
MSI MAG A550BN - 550W
Xiaomi Mi 23.8" Desktop Monitor 1C

I think you've got a really good 1080p gaming system, all around, with no obvious weak spot.
You probably wouldn't see huge difference with a CPU upgrade unless you go all the way up to a 12700, or by switching over to an AMD 5000 series. Off the top of my head, I'm guessing you might get a 20%-40% performance increase depending on the game, when the GPU isn't the bottleneck.
And I just wanna agree for emphasis with mmd1963, that there isn't really and performance increase to be had by upgrading to PCIe Gen 4.

Does the coupon have an expiration date? If it's good for 5-6 more months, I'd wait to see what new components come out. 13th Gen or AMD 7000 might offer much more compelling performance.
If it expires soon... Maybe more...
Faster PCI-e in and of itself is almost pointless as pertains to gaming.... (one small exception would be running one of the goofy 'only 4x lanes of PCI-e 4.0' GPUs that AMD has made...)

But for NVME storage, If otherwise satisfied with FPS achieved, I doubt reducing a game's loading time from 28 seconds to 27 seconds will really not be noticeable...

You should be already getting 60 FPS in those games unless your trying to run all the eye candy.

EDIT if your not I would monitor the CPU temp as the stock ones sux.

If it expires soon... Maybe more storage, if you need it? Honestly, it's a solid 1080p system, and personally, I don't think I'd change it. I might look for peripherals that catch my eye instead, like mice, keyboards, a monitor, headset, etc.
Just my two cents, of course!

If you want to bump up.
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-12400-vs-Intel-Core-i5-10400/4122vs4073

Price out a 12400 and a mobo then deduct your coupon.
Then it's your call.
