is an upgrade to a 1080 gpu worth it

i currently have a ryzen 5 1600, 16 gb of RAM, and a 1060 6gb gpu, im wanting to up grade to a 1080 or a 1080 ti would it be worth the money to upgrade or should i wait a yr or so and see what comes next

Depends.

If you want more frame rate / want to use a higher resolution display, go for the upgrade. If you're happy with your GTX 1060s performance, keep it.
