Question Is anything better than a 7700x or 7600x worth it for just gaming?

If you have a 7700x (can't say anything for the 7600x as I don't have it) do you need something better if all you are doing is gaming? I have the 7700x and an RX 6800 and in most games I play, I am GPU bound even at 1080p

What's your performance requirement? If the 7700X isn't meeting that, then yes, you need something better.
1080p ultra for which the 7700x is plenty (for now). I was more wondering if a 7700x can run a 7900xtx without any bottlenecks (I don't know if it can)then you don't need a more powerful CPU, but yet people still do it.

Every individual will have to make the critical cost/performance ratio evaluation as to whether or not that last bit of performance bump possible from having the 'fastest processor available' is worth it, be it a 7800X3D or 13900K, is worth the added expense or not.

Some games scale better than others with CPU, while others are mostly GPU limited, with many games scaling modestly with increases in either.

It's a very tough call to make sometimes when pondering forking out money for a new mainboard, CPU, RAM, and GPU!

Personally, I like to get 'close to 90%' of top end CPU performance for 50% on the dollar when possible, so that a 'very good' mainboard/CPU combo purchased now is 'good enough' for gaming for 4-6 years , with perhaps only a GPU upgrade done at the 2-3 year point...

As to the rig mentioned, a 7700XCPU and /7800XT or 7900XT GPU combo would likely easily fulfill most folks needs...mine included.

Good luck with your upcoming decisions!

What is your FPS, and what FPS do you need?

I can't imagine a 7700x/6800RX is not giving you GREAT FPS on 1080P.

How much is enough?

I did just read about a new 1080p monitor that is 480hz and supports up to 500hz refresh rate with overclocking. If you had one of those you would need a lot of CPU to get anywhere close to that sort of fps.

Minecraft RTX (the only RT game I play) gets about 48fps and no before you suggest it I am not going to buy an Nvidia card for 1 RT game, as the 40 series is way too overpriced.

Ok buy a new AMD card then :). Sell the 6800 and buy the 7900XTX its under 1k some places now.

You have a pretty great RIG close to one of my builds. Great little systems.
I really can't justify spending more than $500 for a graphics card after I just bought the system for 1 game.
