Is Core2Quad a 4core processor?

I switched from core2duo to core2quad but it is still showing me 2 cores and 2 threads on c2q.I am currently using win7 32bit os.Please help me.

If you just switched CPUs without reinstalling windows then check youtube on how to enable all cores with msconfig
If that doesn't help then make sure your mobo supports 4 cores and that all the settings are correct.
If you still only get 2 cores you will have to try and do a fresh install of windows so it can recognize the new CPU.

Besides the mentioned msconfig boot tab, this can also be stored in the BCD which replaced boot.ini.

This can sometimes be fixed with good old bootrec /rebuildbcd but some settings persist. If you don't feel like learning how to use bcdedit, There's an easier way with EasyBCD.

well to answer you question...
a duo core 2 quad like a Q9400 cpu is a 4 core/4thread cpu. yes

I would reset the bios before reinstalling windows.
then boot in bios to ensure the cpu you installed is properly identified first (i.e. if it isn't windows will not identify it any better)


do that and report back, if still a problem please give use make and model of motherboard and cpu please.
