Is DSR possible on dvi cable?

Would DSR work on a dvi cabled monitor even though dvi is limited to 1080p 60hz I know that DSR just renders the image at high resolution then downscales I wanna know if the cable matters in this operation since I tried it once and didnt notice any difference between my native resolution of 1080p and 4k DSR maybe its just the game and If I tried it with another game it may make a difference I am planning to switch to display port also my gpu is a GTX 970

Bandwidth output across the cable is the same as native 1080p as it down scales so no difference in cable bandwidth requirement there.

You'll notice DSR more around the edges on objects and things and less jaggies. If using 1080p with AA it can be hard to tell the difference i guess. When using DSR try with no AA and see if you can compare better vs 1080p with also no AA.
