Is Dual core enough?

Looking to buy a laptop mainly for everyday casual use but will need to do some coding on visual studio, will a dual-core processor be good enough or will i need to go for a quad-core?

I would go with a QUAD Core prices aren't usually too far apart.

Thanks, also would i need any better graphics than the integrated graphics on an i5 or i7
