Our grandson is asking for a 3D Printer for his birthday (he will be 7). Apparently other kids in his school have them.

We don't know anything about these and saw the FLASHFORGE Adventurer 5M 3D Printer on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/FLASHFORGE-A...id=1739648179&sprefix=3d+,aps,368&sr=8-3&th=1.

It's about $280. Can you let us know if these are good? And can you help with these questions:

1. His family has a Dell Inspiron 24" 5420 All-In-One. Does this work with such a printer?
2. Is there specific software to use with such a printer? Not sure how the image is created to "draw" the picture that will be "printed".
3. How do these hook up to a PC?

Let us know on the above and thank you for your help!

1. Yes.

2. To take a file of the proper construction, a "slicer" is needed to generate the gcode that the printer will recognize. Printers generally come with a default slicer program.
There are LOTS of files available, for free. Predrawn, ready to use.
2 good sources are thingiverse.com and printables.com

3. It varies.

That Flashforge looks to be a competent low priced device.
(I say this, as I'm now on my 6th printer)

Be advised...a 7 year old is going to need a LOT of adult handholding with this.
