I decided to put together a budget system, and based on the manual I decided that a Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 R2 would support an fx-8150 with 8gb RAM and a gtx 760 powered by a 650w PSU should be fine. However I have run into trouble getting the system to post, there are no beeps, only a black screen. I have done plenty of research but I just wanted to clarify, is this because the Gigabyte board, despite saying it can support an 8150, in fact not being able to deliver enough power to it?

Ok,

I've rebuilt the system with just the cpu, cpu cooler, psu, RAM and a fresh speaker.

No output from speaker when turning the system on. And the same result if I turn it on without RAM. However the cooler does spin up

Ok, I replaced the motherboard with an Asus M5A78L-M/USB3. And also picked up a 1 GB stick of Kingston DDR3 RAM. Yet still nothing! I tried several beepers but could get any of them to make a sound (even when connected directly to 5v and ground) so I replaced it with an LED (working). No flashes, doesn't light up. Even when all the RAM slots are left empty I cannot get a code out of it, or when I remove the CPU. Again I have tried this system with two different PSUs, with onboard graphics, with graphics card, with both, with 1GB of RAM and with up to 8GB of RAM. The motherboard was sold as working by the previous owner, it having just been taken out of a system running an 8370.

Aside from the lack of POST everything seems to be working. The power LED on the board lights up, all the fans spin, and the CPU heats up.

UPDATE: The monitor now registers the VGA cable being disconnected from the motherboard, which it didn't do previously.
