I have the following items laying around for a HTPC.
- Zotac Geforce GT 720
- 2x4gb 1600 Ram
- 430 watt power supply
- 120gb SSD. (will be getting 2 x 2tb HDD)
- mid tower atx case

I need a CPU and mouther board would like to spend less then 150. Would somthing like the g3258 work well with this setup? what mobo should I get? I would pref a full atx mobo.

Solution
The g3258 is a great cpu (im using it) but for a home theater system you can go even cheaper with the other pentiums. If you plan on gaming then get the g3258 and overclock it
Take a look at the Raspberry Pi 2. It can be set up to handle HTPC needs. Can run Windows 10. Cost $30. A case for it cost about another $20. It uses about $3 worth of power per year.
The sell all your old PC parts for $50 to someone so it's effectively free.

The Microcenter near me had a deal with a G3258 and MSI z97 pcmate for $100. It's not a combo anymore but I went there a few days ago and they were selling the parts in the store individually for $50 each. They had a pile of those mobo's stacked up about 6 ft tall XD.

Hey thank you for the reply. I want it to do a little bit more then what the raspberry can do. with the g3258 i can atleast set it up for some basic gaming if needed. probably should of mentioned that in the post 😀
