I haven't found a thread about this so I decided to start one.I currently have an i5-4460 and I was thinking at an upgrade. So is the CPU compatible with the mobo?

Solution
If you're just gaming the 4790 is definitely a better choice it's basically a tie for an oced 1600 vs a 4790 up to 4 cores. You can probably find a 4790 or 4790k used for $235 or less the ryzen platform would run you around $350. You could buy a SSD, or start saving on a gpu with the money.

If you intend to keep your motherboard, you can simply check the Gigabyte H81M-DS2 support page (http://www.gigabyte.us/Motherboard/GA-H81M-DS2-rev-10#support-cpu) for the list of compatible CPUs you can upgrade to.

Coming from an i5-4460 (an Intel 4th-gen CPU), your logical choice for an upgrade using the same motherboard you have, would be an i7-4790. An i7-4790K is also an option (but not logical) as you cannot overclock it.

Now, if intend to get a Ryzen 5 1600 (an AMD CPU), you would have to:
1) Change your current Intel motherboard to an AMD motherboard with a B350 chipset (or an X370 chipset if you are looking to SLI in the future).
2) Change your current DDR3 RAM to DDR4 (as the Ryzen platform, as well as current generation Intel platform, only supports DDR4 RAM. Your current DDR3 RAM won't physically fit.

so will buying DDR4 RAM,a b350 board and the ryzen 1600 still be more worth it than getting an i7-4790?
Because I'm planning to upgrade and stay this way for the next 2-3 years.
Also I want to note that I will use it mostly for gaming

Why do you think, you need to upgrade? Are you experiencing any pc performance issues?
It's possible, it's not the cpu that's holding down your system.
i5-4460 is still pretty ok cpu.

Anyway - upgrade to i7-4790 will cost you way less than upgrade to Ryzen 1600.

BTW - can you post full specs of your current system?

i5-4460 3.2 GHz
GTX 960 Strix 2GB
8 GB RAM 1600 MHz
and a 1080 144 hz monitor
The reason I want to upgrade is because I want to play PUBG more but I can't as it stutters most of the time, buildings take 2 minutes to load and I get fps drops at many points in the game.(also the game is CPU intensive).
And besides that,I want to be able to reach 144hz in other games too since I have this monitor.

I have considered that upgrading to i7-4790 will cost less but I do believe that the Ryzen is better in terms of performance and since I'm here I guess upgrading everything but my gpu would be optimal for gaming in the next 2 years.
