is HDMI 1.4b to dvi-d 120hz

So I am looking at monitors and I found one that does 120hz. Problem is that my laptop only have an hdmi output and the monitor can only use dvi-d and displayport. I did some searching and found out that someone got theirs to run 120hz when using an hdmi 1.4b to dvi-d adapter. I am wondering if that would work as my laptop can run with 1.4b and am also wondering where I could find one online as no hdmi to dvi-d cables specifically state that it is 1.4b

Because you're running on a Laptop I just want to clarify this. To notice the benefits of a 120hz monitor your PC need to be running at an average fps above 60 and ideally well above 60. So if your pc is running at say 100 fps than 120 hz is right for you, if not, 60hz is perfect.

Now, to answer your original question HDMI 1.4b is capable of 1080p at 60-120hz. HDMI 2.0 is capable of 4k at 60 hz and 1080 at 120hz.
NO single link DVI-D cable is capable of 120 hz at any resolution, so there alone your 120hz is rendered useless. If you use an HDMI to Display Port adapter you will be receiving the speeds of the HDMI cable.

So if your PC is capable of fps well over 60 and the monitor is no greater than 1080p go with an HDMI to Display port adapter to still receive the benefits of 120hz.

you cannot you would need a laptop with dual link dvi / displayport or the newer hdmi 2.0

Yup, 1.4b is just frame packing, not 2D like mentioned in the post above in the linked thread.

If your hardware can push 120 FPS, use DSR or VSR. Why waste frames. ;-)

Yes, I would mainly only be getting it for csgo which i run at 200-250 fps. Thank you
