I mistakenly bought a motherboard for 8th generation intel core i5 (Gigabyte - B360M H Micro ATX LGA1151), so im wondering if i7 is compatible with this, or if i will need to buy another motherboard

6th and 7th gen cpu in 100 and 200 series boards, 8th gen in 300 series boards. 1151 v2 adds power and grounds and reduces reserved pins.

It all seems to be an artificial lock though as modders are pulling blocks of code from 370 to put in 170/270 and creating a bridge BIOS.

I wish.
Intel is greedy and they will never make intercompatible CPU generations again.
They changed it just to earn more money.
In short ,no ,it is not compatible and you will need a 8th gen mobo.
