Is Intel CPUs worth buying anymore ?

There is a lot going on about this kernel bug and I'm planning on building a new PC and I wanna know if buying an Intel CPU is worth it (G4560), if I should go for AMD or if I would go for Intel wait a bit... I don't know.

Forget the Bugs. The G4560 is a 2 core processor in a 4 core world. IF you intend to game with it on serious gaems (anything AA in the last three years) you need a GPU anyways. That means the price difference to a starter Ryzen build is only about $30 - $40. Just buy the Ryzen. Only go G4560 if you are looking for an HTPC to watch movies and Netflix on.

To be clear, I like the G4560. It is the cheapest CPU that can game. I built one for my Nephew back in April. The problem is it's already showing its age and frame rates are dropping (Especially in multitasking). It's also on a dead end platform now (there will be no new Kaby Lake processors) so you can upgrade as high as a 7700K and no further whereas with Ryzen they are going to work for at least two more generations of CPU and even the cheapest board already works with 8 core 16 thread CPUs if you ever need to upgrade.

G4560 is a cool piece of tech but just like the G3258 has no staying power. Seriously save another $40 and get an R3...or better yet save $120 more and get an R5 1600. That will e good for a long time.

Have to go quad core. A 3ghz quad core will out perform the 3.5ghz dual core hands down. Spend the few extra bucks you will thank yourself later.

I understand, don't really see this bug thing being a big deal, considering how wide spread it is. Worth it comes down to price and performance, even after the small percentage of performance hit. Still can't see that g4560 being worth it in the long run compared to other options.

There are other, better paths to follow vs the G4560.
Ryzen or 8th gen Intel.

For the uses you listed Ryzen is the best choice. CoffeeLake is also good but more money, probably shorter life cycle and not any better for what you said you were going to use it for.
