[SOLVED] is intel i3-8100 with an rx580 a bottleneck?

I’m looking to build a new PC. My first ever. However i’m only looking to spend about $650 dollars. I have a bit of wiggle room in my budget to go up to about $700. (This is all USD, and I am not including peripherals in the price.) however I still don’t have enough money to buy any version of the i5. So would an i3-8100 bottleneck my rx580? should i just downgrade to a 570 or just wait until i can make enough money to buy an i5? Also, in case you were wondering, my current parts list is: intel core i3-8100, radeon rx580, msi z370-a pro, EVGA 550w PSU, samsung 250GB SSD, and a Coolermaster MasterCase H500. This all weighs in at about $624, so just under my budget.

Will X bottleneck Y? Yes, there will almost always be circumstances deppending on the game, area, graphics settings, etc. where it will happen unless X is disproportionately more powerful than Y.

The real objective is to push that bottleneck past the performance target that matters to you in the games you are most interested in.
It should work fine. I have a intel 9700k with the RX 580 and it gave me some problems, but it was a driver issue as they had conflicting files. Unless you put a outdated core like a 6000 or below you should not run into any problems.

Hey matthew!

There is alot of confusion in the pc world with difficulet terms as i3 i5 cores clockspeed rx gtx.
This i3 you have in mind peformans equal or better than a i5 from 1-2 years ago.

Your cpu will defenetly no hold your graphics card back in your price bracket.

drop the motherboard to a b360
change the powersupply to a corsair cx
and for the case get a phanteks p400.

and that saved money will come in handy for some software:)

One small issue with the build. You didn't include ram, so this would be Intel. It's decent but you'll have fps issues and high cpu usage in games like gta5 etc that are optimized for 8 threads.

There are games where the cpu will be limiting assuming 1080p or lower. BF V multiplayer is an example, a quad core cannot hold a minimum of 60fps, however a 580 can easily stay above 60fps if you are careful with the settings. There are a few other examples.

Personally I’d say in this price bracket Ryzen makes more sense. Personally I’d pick Ryzen over an i3 or i5, I’d only build Intel if going i7/i9.

I bought two sticks of 8gb LPX GB ram from a friend, forgot to include it in the part list because i copied and pasted from my notes.
