Depends on the i5. There are 4 generations at the moment, each with multiple different versions of the i5. If we're talking about the 4th generation here, then yes, all i5 processors of that generation are good for gaming.

Yeah, low clock speeds are the problem that you face when gaming on laptops.

For desktop an i5 would be sufficient for pretty much all modern games. On a laptop, maybe not. CPU isn't as important as GPU when it comes to gaming.

Well any i5 after the second generation is great, you don't need a 4th generation, although most people have 3rd or 4th gen if they are building a PC now. If it's a laptop, then the i5 is decent, but unless you have good graphics, you are only looking at a bare bones gaming computer.
