is intel i7 7700k only for windows 10???

Solution
So it's a bit CONFUSING, though it looks like W10 is suggested.

If you just bought W8.1 recently, I suppose you could contact Microsoft Support and see if your "mistake due to MS/Kaby incompatibility" could allow for a W10 free update. Microsoft is pretty weird with what is allowed and what is not.

There's also the free ASSISTIVE version of Windows 10 https://www.howtogeek.com/265409/you-can-still-get-windows-10-for-free-from-microsofts-accessibility-site/

I don't know the EXACT method for that though. If that works, may want to look into selling your W8.1 code.

Big HASSLE I know. Maybe someone else has better advice.

Did you get this information from Intel? Microsoft doesn't guarantee compatibility with anything older and won't offer support for any issues you may run into.

asrock fatality m250 gaming k4 motherboard
intel i7 7700k cpu
16gb ddr4 2400 memory
evga 650w supernova psu

no gpu atm seeking to use integrated graphics for the time being

The board shouldn't have any issue with what you're trying to do. Where did you get the iGPU drivers? What version of Windows are you running?

Is it only running Microsoft BASIC drivers? (check in the DEVICE MANAGER)

I checked the INTEL site and W8.1 does support your driver. It SHOULD be installed automatically if you have MS Updates set to automatic (first time your system is installed then updates everything).

You may have tried to install incorrect drivers (or they may already be installed).

*Download the software tool and run it to have it check for you: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html?iid=dc_iduu

Just as a quick addition, always get Windows from Microsoft.com. Don't trust other ISO downloads.

Yes.

Almost on par with GEEK Squad. :D

My grandmother still wants me to apply there. Something about the fact that my shop doesn't make much money... Well people around here don't have money.

I don't wanna work for the schmuck squad.

If the user can provide an activation code (or linked account), I charge $8 for a reinstall. $5 seemed like I was scamming myself but $10 lead to customers having it done at Digital Concepts instead. He's only a few blocks away.

I'm using the i7-7700k with an ASRock Taichi mobo. Yes, the new Z270 Mobos do not have USB2 ports, and Win7 doesn't have native support for USB3.0.

There are a few options. With the ASRock Taichi, all you have to do is turn on legacy USB support prior to installing Win7. This is what I did: I swapped out my old ASUS 775 chipset mobo with a Taichi loaded with 32GB of RAM and an Intel i7-7700K chip. Turned the box on and Windows 7 64-bit started up perfectly, but my mouse and keyboard were dead. I restarted, changed the settings in the Bios for legacy USB support, and then when Windows finished loading my keyboard and mouse worked just fine. I then installed the necessary USB3.0 drivers, restarted the computer, turned legacy USB support off in the Bios and everything is fine.

Another option is to create an ISO image of your Windows installation with USB drivers.
