Hi all , I could use some help . I have a win 7 64 bit pc with spec's of : Asus Crosshair V Formula MoBo, Samsung 840 Pro SSD , with a 3Tb Seagate Barracuda HDD, (2) HIS 7950 IceQ Boost w\3Gb in Xfire and Patriot 2000 MHZ Ram 3x4GB (12) . My problem began with the install of the Samsung SSD and the 3 TB Seagate upgrade I did 3 weeks ago . I play games on steam and after playing for about 30 to 45 minutes both monitors go down during the game as if the pc had been shutdown ,both are HDMI (1) is Asus VW 266H the (2) Is a 42" Sony Bravia . The PC is still on and never shuts off. It has to be Hard reset because nothing brings the video back up on the monitors, not moving the mouse or any button on the keyboard . I've ran 3DMark on the video cards and cpu . Ck'd Event logs for the times of the events , only the hard reset . Ran win ram diagnostics , all good . This has been going on after driver updates thru windows and AMD Catalyst Control Center . I'm at my wits end . I'm really a noob who googled how to do most of this. Please Help !! Thank you for any ideas .

Solution
Try to shorten your post and make it more concise next time. It would help those attempting to help. I personally think it's a software issue unless the power to the monitors are just being randomly cut off once in a while. Try to fully wipe and reset your computer aka wipe your hard drives and ssd and just start from the ground up with installing windows etc. WARNING *before you do this try to fix it in any other way and wait for others to try to answer this question before taking my advice* WARNING

Download and install Display Driver Uninstaller here Use it to get rid of the latest drivers, then reboot your system.

Then download the Catalyst 13.12 drivers here They are known to be more stable with older crossfire setups.

Thanks Speed Demon , I updated the Catalyst driver thru catalyst already but I will try the display Driver uninstaller once I get to the house . Do you think that I still need to download the Catalyst 13.12 even though Catalyst Control Center recommends software updates thru it ?

Yeah I would advise you to use the older version of the driver for your 7950's, even though AMD suggest updates, in my experience, the newer drivers cater more towards the newer generation cards rather than older ones. I run Crossfire and 13.12 were always my goto drivers when things started going wrong, and they always worked. It sounds like the driver update is when you started having problems, and I have had a few issues with the new Omega drivers myself on different AMD cards.

Thanks , I'll try the Display Driver Uninstaller once I get to the house . Should I not be updating thru Catalyst Control Center for these drivers when AMD recommends ?

Thanks for input , yes that will be a last resort . Thanks again

No, the only time I upgrade my Catalyst drivers was if a particular game was having trouble, and AMD had to release an updated driver in order to fix this. But this was a rare occasion. I usually just stick with older drivers unless I have a good reason to update. Remember, if its not broken....don't fix it!

Solution

Thanks , I'll try everything like you said and stop updating thru Catalyst Control Center . I appreciate you taking the time to help !!!
