I'm building my first PC along with one of my friends and we can't decide on whether or not we are going to want to overclock. Could someone help us out? What are the pros and cons of overclocking? When would we need to overclock our PCs? Thank you in advance!

I'd step back to a i5 7600k and up to a gtx 1080.

Here's a build that would be in the same ballpark dollar wise that will fit overclocking needs. It is a Ryzen build, but keep an open mind that there are more cores and threads, and the motherboard selected has good overclocking capabilities.

Overclocking the CPU and GPU can result in some minimal FPS gains but can also shorten the life of components.
