Question Is it normal for a Ryzen 9950X to reach a temp of 88C° during a Bitdefender system scan ?

Hi guys .
I have a Ryzen 9950X, and I have Cooler Master Atmos 360 water cooler. During my full system scan with Bitdefender the CPU was staying around 82c and sometimes was hitting 88.6c. Wow fans were running crazy like a beehive.

Is it normal or is something wrong ?
When my 9950X is idle it's temp stays around 36c - 48c.

Thinking back to my 10900K CPU, it would heat up to a higher temp on all cores when running a manual Windows Defender antivirus scan of the whole OS drive. The OS drive was on an NVME drive.

In coretemp I could see the core usage maxed out on all cores when the antivirus scan was running hard and heating up my CPU. I liked to use this as a method to test my overclocks sometimes.

I haven't run a full system scan recently but everyday Bitdefender scans pc I hit 77 to 80c so that sounds about right I guess for a full system scan. How long had the scan been running for?
I only have an air cooler myself on a 5800x3d

It's software that places certain load on CPU and whole system and that takes some energy of which some is manifested as temperature. you can't judge by SW, some load more some less. There are also several ways to view temperatures. You can have even only one core higher than others and that shows as whole CPU while others are at minimum.

It was completed in 32 min. First 10 min was around 70c, then next 15 min the temp hit 82t to 88c, further to the end it dropped to around 70c to the end.

How many drives do you have?? are they all nvme?
What was ambient temp?
What case do you have? How many intake fans?

I have to take into account fact your CPU is faster than mine and therefore would get hotter. But then 9000 series is cooler than mine since its smaller nm size cores.

Running a scan now, highest I have seen so far is 83c, that is temp my intake fans reach 100% so might not get much higher. It mostly hovered between 72 and 83c.
HWINFO did record a temp of 89.1c during scan but I must have missed it.

I didn't even think to change Air cooler into High Performance mode. Not that it normally needs it on my CPU, its a little op for it. Changing it just makes pc louder and maybe a little cooler, not really worth it most days.

It only seems to mainly use 2 cores.

My next PC will have (hopefully) a 9950x3d so I be closer to you then.

I remember running Bitdefender on my I5 4690k and it hitting 100% CPU just scanning my ssd. It was a little slow to react, I couldn't sit here typing an answer.

I had around 74F in room at the moment.
I have 3 intake fans front. Case is Montech 903 Max.
I have 1 - ssd via sata 1 TB. And 1 - 2TB M.2 Nvme.
