Hi, is it normal such a video file to be 400 mb? It's 49 seconds long

That depends on the encoder (software or device that produced the file). In your case, the sound is about uncompressed, and the video file is about 3 times bigger compared to a normal dashcam (or most cheap recording equipment).

What camera or software did you used to output that video ?

Surely that records to sd flash cards?

Which means a 50 second clip would virtually fill a 512mb sdhc card??

That can't possibly be right??

It records to 1GB sd card. I couldn't find bigger, so put this one. And yes - about a minute is 500mb

I have a couple of dashcams. That filesize/length is far greater than mine.
My Aukey (1920x1080) records at about 110MB per minute.
The HaloCam M1 at about 50MB/min.

I can adjust video setting, but prefer using the higher possible resolution. But will turn off audio recording if it's possible
