Hello everyone. To start off, I am not too knowledgeable at this. Earlier today I was doing some rocket league on my desktop with others and randomly in the middle of the game my computer like shuts off instantly. I thought huh maybe something happened, so I try to push the power button to turn it on again. All the sudden I hear what I remember to be a pop. Then I smell smoke so I just reach and unplug the computer instantly from the wall. I looked inside and snapped this photo just now that it had time to cool off, this is my motherboard just above my cpu and on the top left of my ram slots, there is charring of some sort. If you look close some capacitor or something looks like it exploded and that’s where I saw the smoke come from when I tried turning it on again a few minutes ago to see if it would work and that's where it instantly smoked from, so I just yanked the plug out of the wall, at least it helped me find the location. Would it be ok to keep running the system if I kind of just scrape it off, should I replace the capacitor (if so, I have no idea what kind), or just replace the entire motherboard? It's an Asus ROG Crosshair viii hero x570 (wifi)

No, and probably not. Mainboards can be many layers thick complicating repairs for the average hobbyist. Salvage your other components (sometimes they survive) and replace the Mainboard.

this too, or possibly collateral damage. Magic smoke bad on many levels..
