I recently replaced my old corsair force 3 120gb ssd with a Samsung 840 pro 128gb ssd to use it as the os drive. I also have 2 old 74gb raptors in raid0 for games and 1 wd caviar black 750gb for storage. Before installing the 840 pro ssd i had raid mode in bios and everything was working ok but when i tried to install windows 7 in ssd it wouldn't let me because i had to change to ahci mode in bios to be able to install them. So i switched to ahci mode and windows 7 installed ok then i installed samsung magician and did AS SSD and crystaldisk bechmarks and the readings was perfect. The strange thing is that the raid array is not broken when i changed to ahci and i can see raptors as one disk and the benchmarks give me the performance of raid 0 so it looks like the raid array is working even in ahci mode. Is this possible i searched in google but can't find an answer if it's possible a raid0 to work in ahci mode? I want to note that i did the following changes to registry and i did not installed intel rapid storage drivers only samsung magician:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\pciide
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorV
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStor
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi

the "start" values changed from 3 to 0

PC specs:
Intel Core I7 2600k 4.2GHz
Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 (rev. 1.0) with latest bios
Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz 2x4GB ram
Samsung 840 pro 128GB ( ON SATA3 PORT)
2x WD Raptor 74GB (ON SATA2 PORTS)
WD Caviar Black 750GB (ON SATA3 PORT)

Solution

They may work. The chipset RAID mode is simply a firmware assisted software RAID. It just allows a RAID volume to be booted from, it does not accelerate operations in the same way that a hardware RAID controller from LSI would.

In any case, enabling RAID mode should not inhibit the operation of your Samsung software.

On Intel motherboards, enabling RAID for the chipset storage controller also enables AHCI. Non-member disks (disks that are not part of a RAID) will run in plain AHCI mode, while member disks will run in an AHCI compatible RAID mode.

Yes i know that but i want to leave it to ahci mode in bios so i can have full control of samsung magician software. My question is that my raid0 raptors seems to work ok now but i want to get a sure answer that it's possible a raid 0 to work even with ahci in bios and not raid mode.

here is the results of the raptors in raid 0 with ahci mode in bios

In my case when i set raid mode in bios i get this message from magician: "Magician cannot communicate with the below Samsung SSD. Please check with other compatible storage drivers and try again..." and i don't have full control of the software features.

Hi Alexis, did you find a solution ?
Thanks
