Is it possible that a virus somehow affects the bios and then over volts the CPU to a great extent which causes it to blow up.

I know that before any damage is done to the CPU the computer would crash, but if the virus prevents any of d safety measures from happening then it's quite possible that the CPU would be fried right?

If it's possible then plzz explain how it would happen.

Just curious 😉

Appreciate any answers:)

Solution
Just speculation, but:

Maybe possible, but highly unlikely. The virus would likely need to be specific to the motherboard model, and those that don't offer voltage control would probably not be able to have a virus written to affect voltage. Security has also gotten a lot better over the years.

Yes, it is possible.

No one on this site is going to explain it, as it would enable more would-be hackers.

It would be difficult, if not impossible, to do this with modern CPUs, though, because they have built-in temperature protections and will shut down when temperature gets too high. So, forced shutdowns could be caused, but difficult to "destroy" them.

I suppose anything is possible. There are viruses that can potentially infect the bios, I would assume if voltage were set too high and safety measures disabled it could damage the cpu.

As far as getting into details, not going to get into that. People may be curious just because they're curious but there's a chance someone may try to get ideas and we're not here to spell out recipes to damage pc's.

Sufficient to say bios viruses while unlikely and more rare than standard malware/virii do exist. Beyond that we won't continue the discussion, much like pirating or hacking or anything else. Yes it exists but how it's done in any amount of detail has the potential to promote it or instruct others with ill intentions. For that reason I'm closing this thread.
