Question Is it possible for the GPU temp to be wrong?

I've had a problem with my gpu temp for a while, it would usually be at ~70c while just scrolling the internet, but when playing games (even on low settings) it would even jump to 90. But now, the only thing I have open is Youtube (not even a video just the front page), but both MSI Afterburner and Task Manager say it's currently at a 98c.

The fans are whirring quite loudly (but def not as loud as they can be) but the temp doesn't go up or down. And also, would a temp that high be felt, like, physically? Bc my pc case is just slightly warm, or even lukewarm, I can't feel any heat. So is it possible that my gpu is not about to burst into flames, and the temp sensor is just wrong? (Sorry for my English, not my native language)
