Well the other day I got my new stick of 2700 DDR sent to me and I was anxious to put it in. I was putting it in so fast that I didn't even double check to make sure everything was in place. When I turned it on nothing booted so I opened it up and thats when I discoverd a burning smell. I found out what I did wrong and I feel very stupid about all this. What happened was I put it in upside down(which meant it wasn't even inserted all the way. So now I'm clueless.
The mobo was a NF7-S rev2.0 and the CPU was a AMD 2400 Athlon XP. I think either one or both of these parts could be damaged but I'm not sure. Thank you for your time.

It is possible that you only fried the slot (and the ram ofcourse) Try a different stick, in a different slot. If that doesn't work try the other different slot. Good luck.

Well actaully the ram isn't fried. I know that because the computer I'm currently using has it. I tried sticking in my 2100 256mb into all the slots but still nothing.

You probably blew the 3.3v rail on the power supply. How on earth could the ram go in upside down? That's a new one for me!

umm.. i know it can't be the PSU because I tried the start it with two different ones. I didn't stick the ram in all the way(because it would never even fit the socket) it was kind of half way in, sliding out sorta.
