I actually asked this question on the r buildapc reddit but got no replies at all. Hopefully you guys can help me. The question format is copied directly from r buildapc so Im hoping it will be clear enough for you guys. * indicates where the question starts.

*What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

My intended use for this build is gaming, video editing and streaming. I plan on starting a gaming YouTube channel soon. I wanted to be able to record in 1080p and 1440p at times depending on the game. As a result of that I had planned on adding 2 6 TB hard drives to the build. That way I don't run out of space anytime soon.

*If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings)

As far as game settings I wanted to be able to play newer games on high settings at 1080p at 80-100 FPS (fallout 4, etc) ideally and possibly at 1440p at 30 to 45 FPS (high settings as well). I wanted to be able to play older games, in particular NBA 2k14 at 1440p at 60-100 FPS at ultra/max settings, 60 FPS is great but obviously if I could get 80 or more then that's better (I'll put the nba 2k14s recommend settings at the end of the post so that you guys can help me accomplish that 1440p goal)

NBA 2k14 recommended requirements

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo processor or equivalent

CPU Speed: wasn't listed but I'm sure whatever build I have will surely surpass it lol

RAM: 2 GB

Video Card: Shader Model 3.0 support with 512MB Ram (Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT or Radeon HD 3850)

Sound Card: Yes

Free Disk Space: 8 GB

*What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

My budget is dependent on an extra $400 I may receive so I guess you can say the ballpark is $1100 to $1500 for the build.

*In what country are you purchasing your parts?

I am purchasing the parts in North America so USD amounts please

*Post a draft of your potential build here.

I used someone else's build on pcpartpicker as a base and I had changed what parts I wanted in my build accordingly. However my build is priced at a little over $2000 and as I said before my ballpark is $1100 to $1500, maybe just maybe I can stretch to $1600. I'm sure there's some things you could possibly take away from my build to lower the price or you can just add to the preset build. I'll leave both down below.

*Provide any additional details you wish below.

Keep in mind that I do want to upgrade this computer (probably 4-5 months after, ideally faster if I can). I also had a question in regards to monitor. In your guys opinion would it be best to get a 1440p monitor at 60hz or a 1080p one at 144hz. I know I wouldn't be doing too much 1440p gaming now but as I said previously I do plan on upgrading this build. What looks the best? I really appreciate you guys helping me in my goal to build this pc so thanks in advance for all the replies!

I changed a TON

You were way overestimating the storage. You don't even know how serious you are with this stuff yet. If you need more, then add storage, but don't waste money.

Solution

I feel like the 550w should be more like 650W in the psu. That's just what I'm thinking, though.

Not at all. This system will not consume more than 350W on full load. Wattage is far less important than the quality of the power supply, and this one has plenty of both.

Xeon will consume under 100W. GTX 970 will be about 165W. Other components about 40W. You're looking at around 300W at load.

alright, I didn't see the pcpartpicker wattage so I just assumed.

I am very serious, I had a youtube 2 years ago with over 10k subscribers but it didnt pertain to gaming. As far as the graphics card goes would that card help me to accomplish the goals I have of playing newer games at 1080 on max at 80-100fps and 1440p on high at 30 to 45fps and 2k14 at max at 1440p max settings at 60+fps? You are right about the space however 2TB is okay for me to work with for now, I can always get more later when I see Im close to the the point of needing it. I was worrying too much about buying this "future" proof computer so thanks for switching that up for me
