Is it possible to have two ISP's in one house?

I live in my parents basement (har har 😀) and have been using their internet connection for a while. Thing is, the internet isn't working properly and they're very stubborn and refuse to buy a new router. I was wondering if it was possible to have two seperate connections in one house? Would having multiple ISP's service one home have any detrimental effects on the service that is provided?

Thanks

I think you'll find it depends on what sort of internet connection you have. The standard DSL/ADSL connections require a phone line. A second connection would therefore require a second physical phone line connected to the house. That's often not a big deal but can incur a setup and line rental fee which can be substantial.

Cable providers will have different options.

Sales people are always happy to talk to potential customers though. Why don't you just give your parents ISP Sales line a call and see what your options are?

I'll do both tomorrow... The main problem is that my internet doesn't allow me to stream or download videos online, except from sites like YouTube. I can't stream sports or movies from other websites at all. I know that it's my internet, because I can easily do it from my schools WiFi and cell phone data.

I'm a bit worried though, as a couple years ago we had something done where extra cable outlets were put into each room and was split with the internet connection? I'm not sure on the specifics, but it was a disaster as our internet always disconnected.

If you can afford your own ISP, you can also afford to help out with your parents current ISP, and maybe even buy a new router for them, upgrade the service and pay for at least the difference in price. Think about all of you, instead of just you.

It's a complicated and very detailed situation... My parents and siblings are extremely stubborn. I'd just prefer to be as independent as possible.
