Is it possible to raise the max resolution?

i noticed in the catalyst control center that there is an option called "My VGA Display".

In it i saw "Monitor Attributes"
with something checked ON ("Use Extended display identification data (EDID) or driver defaults").

i unchecked it and noticed that now, i could set my on Max resolution.

Is it a good idea to raise the max resolution to 1920x1080 (original 1600x1200).

or is this a bad idea?
if someone could explain this to me, that would be great

to get the "BEST" visual display out of your monitor, set it to its native resolution. "Native" resolution can also be called original resolution, like you mentioned. If you change your resolution to 1920x1080 you will find the picture will not be as clear. This because it is not the native resolution and needs to manipulated to fit the screen causing poor quality.

i just raised my resolution from 1600x1200 to 1920x1080 and i didn't get a black screen.
only got it when i raised it higher than 1920x1080.

So does this mean that my screen can support 1920x1080?
is it ok for me to stay on this resolution?

sounds logical, but the only problem is that my native resolution is a 4:3 screen ratio and it always leaves a big black bar on my left side + it also makes the fonts smaller and hard to read.

i got this problem 2 weeks ago.
before, my screen stood on its native resolution and it filled the entire screen.
but one day i restarted my pc and my screen changed into a 4:3.
i don't know how/why it changed all of a sudden.

Sorry for asking but what do you mean by model monitor?
do you mean if its a CRT, LCD, etc?

if thats what you want to know it a LCD (but it's pretty old 7-8 years maybe shorter or longer than that, i don't really know.

i noticed yeah, but sadly the native resolution isn't any better.
like i told the other person on the thread, my screen turns into 4:3 screen.

and i don't know why this is or how to fix it.
it used to fill the entire screen but one day i restarted my pc and it changed.

i tried updating the graphics card of my laptop (after i got the 4:3 problem), but i ended up with even more trouble, but i think i fixed it, but the the problem with my native resolution stayed the same

i did it via the advance option and let it find update auto. for it, it found something updated it but ended with a lot of problems.

Change the aspect ratio, and then you will be able to select the right resolution

Depends what GPU you are using. CCC, Nvidia, or Intel HD graphics? It would be in those settings. Right click the desktop and choose which ever appears in the menu. The aspect ratio should be somewhere in there if you look around.

I don't know what gpu you are using so I can't tell you exactly where it is.

i could do this yes and it works but i noticed something, i opened a browser and noticed that the screens width is a little too wide (i used mozilla at the time, half of the Mozilla logo on top-left is shown).

how do i fix it so that it fits in my screen?
