I bought a cheap 6200TC PCIe card for one of my rigs and I don't want it using system memory - which is why I bought a card with 128 meg DDR2 on-board.

The card will support 256 meg if it can use the system memory, but if I understand it correctly, it won't start using system memory till it runs out of the 128 on-board, right? But I can't seem to find a setting anywhere that prevents that in any case. Is there a way?

The card is Asus EN6200TC TOP/TD/128/A

If you aren't gaming with it there shouldn't be a problem, it shouldn't use even close to 128 for almost anything else other then gaming. What are you using that comp for?

Not for gaming, so it shouldn't be a problem. It just bugs me that there isn't a way to limit a memory sharing function like that. My rig is a Pentium D 805 that came as a package deal from Fry's with an ECS Radeon 200 board... which unfortunately has only single channel on the memory. So you can see why I would NEVER want the video card to start sapping main memory bandwidth!

But even if I do play a simple 3D game occasionally, would it likely need more than the 128 on board? That just seems like a lot of video memory for most things, particularly with a weak core like the 6200.

Oh, you mean the quantum multiplier. My PIII 1 GHz runs at 100 GHz because it has 333 x 3 x 100 (quantum multiplier). Thats plenty fast for me. I am using Helium for cooling, as well as lasers which slow the molecules down to a Bose-Einstein condensate stage, at which my CPU is 1/16 of a degree above absolute zero.

ROFL LMAO!

Hey, it's 18.06 GHz. Get it right! I paid lots of good money for all this heat  Shoot I run more Intel than AMD cause I can't afford the AMD chips now-a-days! Ain't that an interesting statement!!!
