Is it possible to turn the Gigabyte Windforce LED to white?

So I have recently picked up a Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970 G1 edition . I have decided I want to go with a all white build but the LED on the Gigabyte is blue. I have seen people change the colour of the LED on Nvidias reference card by sanding the green paint. Is this possible to do with the Windforce card, and if so will it be easy and need any specific tools as the card does have a backplate, Also will this void the warranty?
