Hi all!

I would like to OC my Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz CPU to 3.00 GHz ,and my mobo is Foxconn G31MXP, so I would like to know if it would be safe to OC it?

Also could my mobo die from the OC?

I am planning to OC the CPU with ThrottleStop, and use the OC CPU only while gaming.

Please help me.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards!

I know for sure the Q6600 can overclock to 3Ghz for sure, I've overclocked mine to 3.2Ghz on an ASUS board and it's stable, I'd suggest overclocking in the motherboard BIOS though.
I'm not familliar with Foxconn's motherboards but try overclocking the CPU little by little to see what happens first. I'd suggest not to OC to 3Ghz on you first attempt start with maybe 2.7Ghz and run a cpu stress test, if the motherboard seems fine, there's no crash, and no overheating then carry on and OC to 2.8Ghz and so on.

Well I would like to OC with ThrottleStop, and use that OC only while gaming.

3GHz is possible with a piece of tape if you have the SLACR version of the Q6600. The MB supports 333/1333fsb CPUs that's all that's needed.
The 2nd photo is the mod.

Throttlestop only works with unlocked CPUs and those are 130W which may not work on that board.
Here are the builds for that.

The first one is an OC Q6600, a base clocked one is further down. Note the CPU ranking, and some of the other better options available.
The X5460 running there is a 120W CPU which menas the OC 95W Q6600 should be right at home. X5470 should work also and would be King of the Hill there.
