SATA III drives are all backward compatible with SATA II so this drive will work fine on your motherboard. It will still be much faster than a spinning hard drive, even at SATA II speeds. On a SATA II connection the top speed will be capped at around 290 MB/s, any listed speeds that are lower than this should be unchanged.

The SSD will speed up any OS or programs you put on it.

The SSD boosts general OS actions and the load times of any apps on it. It's great for games and things that take ages to launch, like Photoshop, but basically useless for stuff like media and documents. Current SSDs run right around the top end of SATA II, so you'll be fine.
 
You people above need to pay a bit more attention to the other features of a ssd instead of staring at the amazing mb/s scheme...

IOPS and ACCESS TIMES people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
