Hi peeps.

I have virgin media's 100mb cable broadband service which works well except for peek times and weekends when my wired and wi-fi devices come to a slow painful crawl. I don't have any issues with range on my wi-fi devices and I've looked at the wi-fi channels in my area and switch channels accordingly but this has little to no effect during those busy times. I've seen these new fangled hyper routers you can buy which apparently cuts through busy periods to insure you get the best speeds possible. I have been looking at a Asus RT-AC87U.
I contacted Virgin Media and asked if Its possible for me to use it instead of their SH2 (Super hub 2) and they said "Only way you can use the Asus is to set your SH2 to modem mode"

So that's fine its easy to do but my question is this,
will the Asus be just as effective going through the SH2 as if it was getting a direct signal from A raw cable feed?

Also as a bonus question. (if the answer is yes to the first question)
Would i see a big difference in reliability to my broadband speeds if I went for the Asus RT-5300 instead of the RT-AC87U?

Thanks
Chris

Solution
If your wired and wireless devices slow down, then it is an ISP overload issue and not your local equipment. Changing routers won't make any difference.

Are you using your ISP for DNS? Maybe their DNS servers are getting slow. Try using the google DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
