gtx 970 is cheaper by 200$

I can use this money to buy a decent headphone.

is the performance between these tow cards really that different?

I want something that can perform well(medium to high settings) for the next 4 or 5 years.

I won't built SLI , and my monitor is 1080p.

purpose is Gaming.

thank you and excuse my poor English 🙁

GTX 970 Has 4gb of vram, but upto 3.5gb is usable, going beyond that degreades the performance,it isn't an issue to get woried about honestly, since you're not going beyond 1080p.

Do you know anything about that memory allocation issue with gtx 970? i can't understand it ...

In a nutshell the 4gb vrm is 3.5, and the last .5 is slower. That causes some issues at higher resolutions. Thats it.

GTX 980 is around 15% faster than the GTX 970, but $200 more. Not worth it in my opinion, especially at 1080p. You can also get a 970 with a great cooler (Gigabyte Windforce) and overclock it to narrow the gap between it and the 980.

Unless you have to game with 3 monitors in 4k you won't need the 980 and only because of the memory cap then the shear power of the gtx 970 could easily handle 4k If I could recommend the EVGA GTX 970 SC its the same price range as a gtx 970 but much more powerful and with a corsair water cooler you can easily overclock it to be more powerful than the 980

As a owner of a gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming i can tell you i am super satisfied. Gpu while gaming is around 55°. Max temp reached while gaming was 59/60 with a 100+ mods skyrim and another one game at maximum settings. And the gpu didnt even maintained these temps for long. Was just a bit and tgen down again. Max temperature after 45min of stress test at 99% load was 63°. I bet I can down these numbers if I had more fans to my case that only has the stock ones for now. I was affraid like you and I almost gave up because of all tge internet flaming about It. I almost went with a R9 290x. Glad I didnt. The card performs great at 1080p. Bioshock infinite, tomb raider (tressfx is really demanding though), devil may cry, insurgency, a totally modded skyrim (with all the trees, grass, and effects I added I get fps drops now anf then when turning the cam too fast or entering a zone where it has to load tons of stuff, ill reinstall the game to the ssd to see if it helps loading the textures faster and probably a slight overclock would do wonders, if I knew how.. im a bit affraid of oc'ing xD ) long story short. Great calue/performance card. Would buy again
