So i have the ryzen r5 1500x and I want to overclock it to 3.9 but since XFR does the same thing is there any significant performance boost to overclocking manually. I play mostly games that run on 1 core so having XFR boost work on 2 cores only is not a problem. i've also read that XFR is not a sustain boost and will only go up to 3.9 for a few seconds is this true?

No, it is not worth it if you mostly use applications that run on 1 core. A 0.2 OC across all the cores will not be noticeable at all in your situation. Oh, and as far as a I know XFR will do a sustained boost as long as the cooling is adequate and the application demands it.
